Hi there. I’m testing the sign-up form like crazy and would like to get your solution to a couple of things I’ve noticed.
1. If the user makes an error, for example if the email is taken already, they’re taken to a new page and given the error message but when going back to the form all of their info is gone. How can we make the form hold the users information so they don’t have to start again?
2. It’s interesting that the admin has to type then retype the password in the user’s account edit page behind the scenes but there’s no way to make the user retype the password when they’re setting up the account. I hate the idea that they have to do a reset request 1st thing because they mistyped a password attempt. Can we change that?
Thx.
1. That doesn’t sound right. If you make an error then the form shouldn’t reset (it stays on the same page and tells you what the error is) unless something is going wrong on this site. Please post a link to your registration page so I can check and see what you are doing.
2. The customer facing registration form is designed to make it so that the customer has to fill in as less info as possible to complete the registration (the more info a customer has to fill in, the greater the chance of abandonment). This is why the default registration form is designed to only have 4 or 5 fields. We have way more data from a lot of our customers to assess and truly determine if it is really an issue or not and this hasn’t been an issue so far. However, it is not a bad idea to have that option so I will look into it.
Update: We now have an option to show an additional “Confirm Password” field in the registration form.
