Usage of "cat_parent" field in wp_eStore_cat_tbl?

Does the cat_parent field have some “future usage” for eStore implementations?

I discovered that editing the database to change a value from 0 to say 3 or x, then editing that category in the eStore Categories form resets the value to 0.

I could find instant use for parent/child categories, but I’m just wondering what could be possible.

Yes, the schema was created that way so it is capable of doing sub categories.
