updating the username of an affiliate not working

When attempting to update the username of an affiliate from the affiliate management screen the updates are not saved.

I don’t think you can change the username

Usernames can’t be changed after the account is created for other complications. The username is the key so if you change it then it won’t be able to retrieve the record from the database. This is why you will see that many membership programs or services don’t let you change the username. For example, can you change the username of your email address?

You will need to delete that account and create a new one with the desired username.
