Hi:
I’m building a site that is an online radio show. Basically, you should be able to listen to the latest show for free, then you have to be a member to listen to the archives of any older radio shows.
I thought I’d just make each show a blog post, then have the latest post show on the home page, and the older posts on a page called archives. No matter how I try, though, I can’t keep the posts on the archive pages from showing up even to non-members.
All the forum answers seem to indicate that the plugin can’t do it, but I don’t get why that is? This is the whole reason I bought this plugin. How can I protect that page (Archives) so that you can only access it if you are a member?
Thank you

March 17, 2013 at 11:55 pm #54497adminKeymasterPlease read this documentation first which will help you understand the various types of protection options that are available in eMember:
Lets say you want to simply protect the following page:
You can do that using the 3rd protection method (see the “Lockdown Specific Pages” section)
Alternatively you could use use the category protection feature to protect posts that are old. Lets say you have created a WordPress category called “Protected” and used eMember to protect this category.
Now, you publish your blog posts as usual but after a few weeks or so you edit the old post and assign it to this “Protected” category which makes it protected. It depends on how long you want to make the post available for free. Once every month or two, you could select all your old posts and assign it to this “Protected” category and that makes them protected.
Remember that “Archives” is actually not a page by itself (you won’t see this page under the “All Pages” menu of WordPress). “Archives” is a dynamically generated page that lists all your old posts (similar to your categories page). What eMember does is that it protects the content that you put inside a post or page via the WP Post/Page Editor. So instead of protecting the archives page you should try to protect all the individual posts.
March 21, 2013 at 2:16 am #54498joyofawakeningMemberI don’t know what happened, I posted a response and followup, but it seems gone now…..
ANyway, I read all of the documentation, and it seems to say that I should be able to lockdown the page “Archives” and then anyone who isn’t logged in should be redirected to a login page (or other page of my choosing)…. but that isn’t happening…. Instead what happens is that they are shown the Archives page with a note on it saying they have to be logged in to view it, but then all the content is there anyway……
Why isn’t it working right, and what can I do different to make it work properly?
Thank you for your help.

March 21, 2013 at 4:13 am #54499adminKeymasterHi Gavio, I sent you an email but didn’t receive any reply. Can you please reply to the email I sent you?
March 21, 2013 at 8:22 pm #54500joyofawakeningMemberI found your email… It went to a different address…… Thank you.
The problem is that the page I’ve labeled “Archives” is actually a page I built – it could have been named “Radio SHow” or whatever….. It is a page format that displays some content, and then one category of posts, in this case the category “radio show”….. so since this is an actual page that I made, like any other page, why can’t I protect it?
Thank you

March 22, 2013 at 4:24 am #54501adminKeymasterWhen I looked at your archive page it didn’t look like a standard WordPress page. The content was added below the standard WordPress page editor content. Are you using another plugin to do this? Please reply to my email and send me access to the site so I can check your setup and see how this page looks in the inside.
March 23, 2013 at 5:11 pm #54502joyofawakeningMemberHi:
Thanks for helping me…. I am unable to respond to the emails because they are sent to the owner of the site, who is also the owner of the plugin, and I am helping him set up the site…. Is there any way you could email me at:
gavio at livebetterbydesign dot com
I’d love to be able to get this sorted, and would be happy to let you into the site.
The page structure is a function of my theme – Weaver II Pro. It allows me to divide up the posts and place them on several different pages that have both fixed content and posts. It’s a great setup, though obviously there is something there that seems weird to eMember.
I will try again to email you. Last time it bounced.
