    I see other similar problem but not sure the error message is appears to be different.

    I get this error when attempting to tweet:

    Could not tweet, please try again later: 401:{“request”:”/1.1/statuses/update.json”,”error”:”Read-only application cannot POST.”}

    https://dev.twitter.com/overview/api/response-codes

    Authentication credentials were missing or incorrect.

    Are your user name and password correct?

    which username are you referring to? me the “buyer / tweeter”

    or username and password for the site owner’s twitter account?

    I don’t see a place for owner’s twitter un and pw in the settings, just the consumer key and secret.

    Ammend:

    there is the user name input, and that appears to be correct

    RE: username and password, i am not sure to whom that refers, but as a “the customer” in my test, yes my UN and PW are correct.

    I have also confirmed that the API codes are correct.

    I can see in the twitter account “access level” in the Keys and Access Tokens tab permissions are set to “read-only”

    Log back into https://apps.twitter.com and change your API permissions to Read/Write; per the addon documentation:

    awesome, that did it. glad i noticed that option at all.

    that detail is not particularly highlighted in the wp tweet documentation, especially up against that well highlighted red circle just below.
