I’ve been messing around with both methods for a PPV we are having Sept 17th. In terms of setup the old method is much easier. This new method is suppose to be the way to go as it encrypts cookies as APR’s into the page.

I’m trying to figure which is best for our scenario: we are holding advanced ticket sales for this event which will then go up in price after the 10th of Sept. The created gateway page is not in our WP theme page site it links elsewhere.

So if both methods protect with some type of encryption, one by creating a masked page, the other an encrypt cookie. What reason does one need to utilize the new method?

What is the major benefit to using the new method?

    Thnx!

The MAJOR difference, is the manner in which the content is protected.

Under the “Old” method, your eStore server acts as a middle man between the video source and the viewer. This “man in the middle” approach works, but it has scalability problems. If 100 people try to watch a video at the exact same time, your server may not be able to handle it; unless you spent the appropriate amount of money for the “ultimate hosting package.”

Under the “New (APR)” method, viewers are given direct access to the video source. But in order to view the page containing the player, an APR cookie is required. The server only needs to check once for the cookie, before granting access to the player. There is a significantly lower burden placed on your server.

I’m assuming, from the way you phrased your question, that perhaps the reason for the problems you experienced in yesterday’s related thread had something to do with the content being hosted on another server, besides your own?

    Thanks for that clarification.

I was just having such an easier time with the old method because for whatever reason that shortcode was allowing me to embed the media player. As you remember would neber appear on the page however we were able to see ‘TEXT’.

But I see the major advantage from that explanation. After our pre-sale tickets I will contact my server company to give an idea of #’s so that we can meet our server demands. At this point we had no other choice but use the old method.
