Tagged: manage affiliates, manage taxes
I’m wondering how to/what other members are doing to manage taxes for affiliates. I have a membership site on which I have an affiliate program. As an affiliate before, I’ve had to fill out a W9 in case I go over $600 per year (or whatever the number is). For example, clickbank requires that for affiliates. Is there any easy way to manage the taxes for affiliates with this plugin? Any info would be great.
Hi, Tax situation varies from person to person based on the business, your target audience, product, state, country etc. So it is best to get tax advice from your accountant.
With that said, the money you pay to your affiliates is an expense for your business. So you would claim that as an expense for your business and that’s all you have to do. Now, as a proof, some users prefer to collect the Tax ID of the affiliate. Your affiliates can fill in their tax ID in the affiliate plugin. If your accountant tells you that you also need to collect filled out W9 form from your affiliates, then you can put that form somewhere on your site and tell your affiliates to print it, fill it, sign it and then mail it to you. I find that for most small business this is not necessary.
