I was just testing to verify an email with the encrypted download link is getting sent to purchasers, since one person said he hadn’t received it. I set up a test product, purchased it, and in this test I used a Yahoo email address for the email to go to.
The email arrived just fine, but I noticed that the From: field shows:
X@yahoo.com <X@yahoo.com>;
I have no idea how that email address got inserted…it’s not mine or anything I’ve ever seen before.
I checked my eStore settings, and the From: address is still set to sales@mydomain.com. Previous tests when I set up the cart worked fine, though I hadn’t had it sent to a Yahoo address before, so why this sudden erroneous email address showed up is a bit of a shock.
Any thoughts on why this happened?

Are you using a plugin similar to the following which can globally change your email address parameters?

April 4, 2012 at 6:13 am #43726Chris LambrightMemberI’m not using anything to globally change my email address, but my question isn’t about the email address the plugin is sending to, it’s the email address that it shows to have come from–the ‘X@yahoo.com’ email address, which doesn’t even exist as far as I know.
The email generated by the purchase went to the correct address, and and the subject line and contents were all correct. But for some reason, when it arrived, the ‘From:’ email address showed this strange ‘yahoo’ email address, not the email address that is setup in my eStore settings, or even one from my own domain.
Maybe it’s purely coincidental that in this test I was using my own Yahoo email account to receive the email after purchase, it’s the first time I’ve done that. But it’s strange that the first letter of my domain is “X” and the bogus From: field showed as ‘X@yahoo.com’, which made me wonder if Yahoo is trying to check spam or something and substituting some weird combo email address for the From: field. That’s just a guess, but I can’t account for it and want to be sure this isn’t a glitch in WP eStore.
Thanks,
Chris
April 4, 2012 at 11:57 pm #43727adminKeymasterSomething had to alter that email’s envelop and change the “From Email Address” value. eStore won’t use values like “X@yahoo.com”. Remember a lot of things happen between eStore telling the server to send the email and the email actually arriving in the inbox. This post will give you some insights:
