Tips and Tricks HQ Support Portal › Forums › WP eMember › Special Characters Being Allowed in User Name Field that are not valid in WP
Good Morning,
I think I have just discovered a bug in WP eMember 10.0.2
This version is allowing the following special characters in the User Name field &#!/? (maybe more)
Normally this does not cause a problem. However, if we activate the feature to set up a WordPress user whenever a new member joins, we then have a problem because wordpress strips those special characters.
So then, if we activate the feature that logs a member who logs onto WP eMember to wordpress (as I wish to) that person will only be logged into WPeMember and not wordpress.
Example: I can setup a member with test! as his user name in WP eMember, but the auto sync feature will set the same person up with a Username of test without the explanation mark in wordpress (I have tested this)
By the way, wordpress seems happy with @, so we can still keep the feature to use an email address as a username and be synced up with wordpress users.
Thank you. I will make a change so the ! character is treated as an invalid character for the username field.
That’s great, thanks. Please note that it’s not just !.
I also have members that have used the following: &#!/?
Thanks again.
John
We have made a change in the plugin so it doesn’t accept those characters in the username field. I have sent you an email with the update.
