MemberWhichever shortcode I use, the download button appears twice on the page. It looks like the automatic download button I get after I upload the file still stays and shows up together with the one that comes with the shortcode. And they both appear on the page.

MemberNow I get an error: “Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 523800 bytes) in /home/www/monradproductions.com/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 235”

KeymasterThat error means that your server is running out of PHP RAM memory. Ask your hosting provider to increase your RAM memory limit (they have given you too little memory). A plugin can’t run smoothly if the server kills the process due to low memory limit. So get that fixed then we can look at your other issue.

Keymaster128MB of Memory is too little these days. They shouldn’t even be selling hosting plan with so little memory.
Our eStore plugin doesn’t required that much memory actually. Any other good e-commerce plugin you use will require more memory than eStore.
Also, remember ONE plugin is not everything here. The more plugins you use, the more memory you need. So if you want to use a few plugins, you are going to need more memory.

MemberI agree, but I use six plugins in total. I’ve just disabled them and left only:
– Extra Shortcodes for WP eStore
– Simple Download Monitor
– WP eStore
I still get the same error. Do you think the problem could be somewhere else?

KeymasterHow big is the download file that you are using in the simple download monitor plugin?
The issue you see is with the simple download monitor plugin’s download button right?

MemberThe file is a MP3 324KB. I have another one with a MP3 which is 1.2MB – the same error. Yes, the plugin is simple download monitor. This error I get only when I use shortcodes. Without a code with its default download button, it is working fine.

KeymasterI will take a look inside your site to get a better understanding of your setup. I have sent you an email. Please reply to it.
Update: Looks like you manually edited the post the plugin created and added extra shortcode in there.
This is a custom post created by the plugin. It will already put the download button in there. So you don’t need to put a shortcode in it again. So you have got the standard download button that is coming from the custom post and then the next one is coming from the shortcode that you manually put in there. Why are you editing that post and putting a shortcode? The download button is ALREADY there from the plugin by default. Simply remove this shortcode and you should be good.
You can use the shortcode on other posts and page (that you create) to put a download button if you want to.

MemberI understand. But if I use a shortcode in a regular post I still get the same memory error. even with all other plugins off.

KeymasterRemember that memory error is because of the RAM limitation of your server.
ONLY your hosting provider can fix it by increasing the PHP RAM limit on your server. OR you have to get better hosting plan that has more RAM.
Think of it this way….. could you run a powerful software in a very low configuration old computer that had very little RAM?
There is a reason why hosting companies sell those more expensive plans. If you could do everything with a cheap shared hosting, then hosting companies would never need to sell the more expensive hosting right?
The following post has some good insight also. No need to buy anything… just read the article which has some good useful info that will help you understand this better.

MemberI see. I’m moving to new hoster soon and we’ll see how it will work with 512MB of PHP memory there. Thank you!

KeymasterDid you edit that page to make sure you have the shortcode there? Is the plugin active? I am just asking this because I am assuming you did a migration and it is good to check those things after the migration.
