Show original price and discount in email to customer

The email to the customer is showing the discounted price, but they don’t see the actual discount. Is it possible to show both the original price for the item and either the discount amount or the adjust price so the customer has a record of how much of a discount they got?

Unfortunately, the pre-discount price information is not carried past the checkout page, and cannot easily be passed through post payment processing.
