Serial key not needed for download

I have added my product (EBook) and have serial keys to be sold with each purchase. Upon 3 trial runs, the serial key is given to the paypal buyer when redirected to my site and also in their emails. However, my product downloads for them without needing to use the serial key.

Is this what is supposed to happen, or did I miss a step in setting up my keys that would require my customers to enter the serial number before the download occurs?

The serial keys feature are not used for what you are thinking of.

Instead, they are for instances when you are selling digital products, such as software, that require a license key or serial number to install or operate.

I would like to prevent my Ebook from being opened by those who do not pay for it. I Thought the serial key function would serve as a password protection per EBook downloaded.

Is these a way to password protect my book so that only the purchaser has access to my pdf file?

I would also like to make sure the file can not be changed and printed.
