Hi. I’m a bit concerned about using the WP media library to host my downloadable files, as it seems to me that it would be pretty easy to gain direct access to the files. Is there a best or recommended practice for where on the server to store my digital product files that will be secure, but not create any weird problems when it comes time for the customer to download?

You can create an empty php or html (e.g test.php or test.html) file and keep it inside your download directory. This way anybody won’t be able to browse or see anything in that directory as the browser will show the blank page.
Hi, You can store your files anywhere you would like as long as the plugin can access them (e.g. not password protected). You do not need to have the files in the upload or downloads directory.
