MemberHi, Our website sells shirts with custom artwork and a few of them are adult-only. Is there any way to require a checkbox stating “I am 18 years of age or older” only on certain products and not all of them?

Thank you.

ModeratorNot really, the T&C checkbox is “global.” And legally, a simple checkbox doesn’t relive you from your responsibilities to ID underage shoppers. Perhaps, you might consider using eMember to partition such products into an adult themed area of your eStore. You could then require them to use a credit card to purchase a $1 lifetime “verification membership.”
You should also consider that since we’re talking about t-shirts; worrying about who sees/buys them before purchase, increases your after-sale legal liability; if a buyer wears it in public, and someone gets offended. That’s because it demonstrates that you knowingly sold a harmful/hateful/offensive product. Your liability may vary, depending on the laws of your customer’s jurisdiction.

MemberOK. Is it possible to set up two instances of eStore, one to sell only these “mature” products and one for general stuff? The membership option seems to me to be a roundabout way to deal with what are only a few of the total products.

ModeratorIf you wanted to use “2 eStores,” you’d have to setup 2 separate WordPress instances. Fortunately, the eStore Licensing Agreement allows you to do this.
You can either do this, by installing each WordPress instance (with plugins) in its own directory, or by using 2 domains or subdomains; your choice. But because each instance is a 95% duplicate of the other, your maintenance tasks will effectively be doubled. You can also use the Multisite version of WordPress; but it tends to be more complex than just installing 2 copies of WP.
