Here is a link to my join page [http://carrielachance.com/join] please see the options there to see what I mean below.
I currently only have 1 emember membership level for “VIP MEMBERs” but within my estore I have different options for payments as you will see on my join page (example: BRONZE member is a 2 day trial for $2.99 then it bills $24.99/month after 2 days recurring every 30 days…another one is PLATINUM member which is $38.99 upfront for 90 days then after 90 days it’s recurring every 30 days at $12.99/month etc.) so they aren’t paying for additional content like most emember sites, they are picking what upfront cost they want to pay to access the VIP content in general.
I protect all my VIP content using more tags within posts (VIP photos/videos), but no matter what subscription someone picks, they get the same content… it’s just they get a discounted rate if they pay upfront. So I currently only have my 1 VIP Membership level for emember which is set to “good till canceled”.
That being said, (as others have said) when someone cancels who signed up for say the platinum membership after only 3 days or something, they can no longer login for there paid remaining 87 days and sets it to inactive. Same thing with the 2 day trial etc.
So after reading your responses to other people with similar issues, I thought about just changing it to the duration of 31 days…..HOWEVER if I change my ememebr VIP membership level to have the duration of 31 days, that won’t work for my 2 day trail or any other membership level OTHER THAN the one the is just monthly CORRECT??
If you could please look at my join page to see more what I mean that would be great. I have had SO many people complain about this, especially the people who sign up to the 2 day trial and immediately cancel because they don’t want it to recur at $24.99 in 2 days but then they don’t have access so they pay again and want a refund..
PLEASE HELP
April 17, 2013 at 7:16 pm #39456archenemysMemberOne more questions… If someone was to pick the PLATINUM vip membership and they pay the upfront $38.99 for 90 days and then recurring at $12.99/month… and I have the duration to 31 days… after 31 days is it going to make there account inactive because the system is going to think that they didn’t send payment?
I thought about creating several emembership level for each estore memeber subscription and set the duration of say the platinum membership to 90/days, however then they would have to pay $38.99 every 90 days instead of just $12.99 every 30 days after first upfront fee.
Does this make sense?

– Yes unless they choose to renew.
I think the best way to handle this would be to create two membership levels (one with the trial and another with the recurring). You can set it so both of them can have the same level of access. After the “trial” membership expires you can give them an option to upgrade to “recurring”. Once they upgrade their account they will continue to access the content.
This way you can have a separate duration for each membership level.
April 18, 2013 at 2:51 pm #39458archenemysMemberhmm… yea thats not going to work because we really want it to recur every 30days after the trial period of 90 days… dosen’t seem to be a work around there. It’s just that people tend to forget to “review” after an extended amount of time and we loose revenue. That make sense?
Is there any chance that this could be looked into so that this would be an option that you all could write into this software?
I’m sure there are many other people out there that this benefit… I’m getting emails almost daily with people wondering why they no longer have access after paying and canceling when they paid for the 90 days.
This is generally a standard option for subscription software or services that we have used in the past
April 20, 2013 at 2:12 am #39459adminKeymasterHi, We are looking into adding another option in the plugin that should allow you to handle the scenario you have.
September 23, 2016 at 12:20 pm #39460karencheahMemberHi, I would also like to setup such that members who cancel will have access up to the end of the membership duration paid for. I’ve noticed that you suggested to use 31 days (instead of 1 month) for monthly subscriptions. Is that to have a buffer in case Paypal payment is delayed?
Does that mean for annual subscriptions, I should use 366 days instead of 1 year?
Would appreciate your advice, thanks.
November 23, 2016 at 1:00 am #39461Mdudley286MemberI have noticed that my members who cancel are switched to unsubscribed, but can no longer access member only pages. I do wonder since I am also using the eMember auto redirect if that has anything to do with it. If I switch to active, at the end of the term will they still be marked as expired for no payment?
November 23, 2016 at 11:44 pm #39462adminKeymasterCan you do a test by deactivating that other addon temporarily to see if you still see the same behavior?
September 10, 2020 at 11:43 am #39463gwattsSpectatorHas the suggestion from archenemys 7 years ago been implemented into the WP eMember plugin yet. See the archenemys suggestion below..

September 11, 2020 at 4:06 am #39464adminKeymasterThe way to offer what “archenemys” wanted is to have a separate trial membership level that is only for trial.
Everything we want to implement in terms of this has already been implemented. What you pointed out requires a very complicated setup (in terms of the underlying code structure). We will not make the plugin more complicated and upset the majority of our users who love the way it works now. You will need to look for a more heavyweight solution.
