Hello. I have a customer who is trying to register on my website. The registration is stating that her email address is not valid; however, her email address is valid. How can this be fixed? She is getting frustrated and I do not want to loose business over this. Please advise.
January 21, 2015 at 10:06 pm #68174wzpModeratorIs the problem only with one particular email address, with email addresses used by a particular person, or with email addresses used by anyone; including yourself?
What is the email address and what exact error does it give?
Did you check your WP Users menu to make sure that email is not being used by a user record there?
January 23, 2015 at 2:34 pm #68175modellicreationsMemberThis is not the only email address doing it. I just had another customer try to register with the same problem who said the same thing. This needs to be fixed ASAP! These are the 2 valid email address that the system is claiming are not valid but ARE valid:
The error it gives is a red pop-up by the email address field that states that the email address is not valid. I could only see that because I tried to complete their registration myself and manually, and that is what showed on my screen.
January 23, 2015 at 2:36 pm #68176wzpModeratorPlease post a link to the registration page on your site,so that we can observe the problem.
January 23, 2015 at 2:36 pm #68177modellicreationsMemberAlso, these email addresses were NOT already registered. I even completely deleted the first email address (from being in limbo) in the registration system. I tried to add it again myself and got the invalid email error again.
January 23, 2015 at 4:14 pm #68178morleyMemberI had a similar problem about a week ago. No matter what we tried, the person could not complete his registration (it was a regular hotmail address). As a workaround, I had to set up a new account with a different email address and then change the address to the correct one after the account was set up. I’m not certain, but I think it may be triggered when a person uses the “forgot password” function before completing his or her registration.
January 23, 2015 at 6:18 pm #68179wzpModerator@morley — In this case, the user is claiming the problem occurs on the registration page. Until the user decides to share a link to their registration page, there isn’t much we can do. We need to be able to inspect the registration page to see where the error is coming from on that site.
January 24, 2015 at 11:44 pm #68180morleyMemberI think this is the original poster’s registration page:

I figured out a way to replicate the problem, but I’m not positive whether this was what happened to our user. If you do a free registration and put a space either in front of or behind the email address, it will be accepted and entered into the members table. However, if you follow the link in the email, you won’t be able to complete the registration because the email address doesn’t properly validate (it’s read only on the followup form, and an added space behind it won’t be visible unless you inspect the element).
Here’s our registration page for testing:

January 25, 2015 at 1:08 am #68181morleyMemberSorry, that URL was slightly off:
I’m almost certain our member unintentionally added a space to his email when registering. I temporarily changed his email address in the members table, and I was able to complete a new registration with his email address without a hitch. I’ll report back once he replies to my message.
January 25, 2015 at 6:12 am #68182modellicreationsMemberThanks for the information Morley. I am still not sure how to fix this issue. You were also right about my registration link – it is [http://www.modellicreations.com/register-wholesale/registration/] I do not know why it randomly starting doing this? I’ve never had issues with email addresses before.
January 25, 2015 at 2:27 pm #68183wzpModeratorI do not know why it randomly starting doing this?
That’s the problem. It’s random. You state I should see the error on the registration page, correct?
I just created a test@example.com user and it did not reject the email address. Of course, now that I’ve used test@example.com it now rejects it as having been “already taken,” if you try using it again. But that is to be expected.
If an email address is already taken (by a WP user or eMember user) then that email can’t be used again. Give me ONE email address that you do not have in your WP users list or emember list. So I can use that email to signup and check this.
January 26, 2015 at 2:12 am #68184modellicreationsMemberOkay, I have deleted the Zebra account – email address is zanyzebrastore@gmail.com
This was the first customer who had an issue with the registration form claiming her email address is not valid. I am noticing that the people getting the invalid email error show a subscription start date of “January 1, 1970.” Your test@example.com also shows the same subscription start date. This is really strange.
January 26, 2015 at 10:40 pm #68185adminKeymasterSomething is messed up on your site. I will take a loo inside. I have sent you an email for it.
January 27, 2015 at 7:19 pm #68186modellicreationsMemberI sent you the information you requested via email this morning. Hopefully you got it.
