I would have asked this in my previous post, but it’s a different topic so I thought it should be in it’s own post.
I thought I read somewhere that cookies are stored for 21 days unless the computer user clears them (correct me if I’m wrong, I can’t find where I thought I read that). Our client has a question about this:
If a person clicks an affiliate link and then makes a purchase/signs up/whatever, then comes back a month/6 months/1 year later without clicking that link or any other affiliate link, who (if anyone) gets credit for the commission? Is there a way to default the commission to the original affiliate referrer if no other links are clicked after the cookie is expired?
Thanks!
Yes, by default the cookie is stored for 21 days. You can configure this from the “WP Affiliate Settings” menu. After the cookie expires no one gets credit for a sale. If you want your original affiliate to get commission after 6 months or 1 year then set the “Cookie Life (Days)” value to 365 days.
