I read the other post about expired and inactive members, and searched the documentation, but still not finding an answer to my question…

What’s the difference between “expired” and “inactive”? I think I understand “expired” well enough, but we’re thinking “inactive” is irrelevant to our organization, since all we have are paid memberships. We let new members create “free” accounts, but then immediately escort them to log in to their account to make a payment to activate their membership. That’s just to allow eStore accept payments from someone other than the member and store different billing and member info.

But my question is more about what it means if someone is “inactive”, and how it affects their access to eMember and member site benefits?

    Thanks,

    Kate

Lets say a member has a recurring payment setup (subscription). One month, their credit card expires, and the payment doesn’t go through. That membership status becomes “inactive,” until the payment goes through.

Ah, okay. If we don’t do recurring payments, would the membership then simply expire when the renewal date passes?

I set up a recurring membership page in May. My first subscriber has now successfully paid through PayPal for her second month. However, the membership shows “inactive” even though I’ve received the payment.

Can I force an “active” status somehow so she has access? We’re still trying to get her Username and Password to set.

(She had problems when she signed up, and ended up with three subscriptions. I refunded the PayPal charges, deleted the duplicate recurring payments in PP, and deleted the memberships in eMember. We still cannot get her username to show up or her password to set, in addition to the “inactive” status of her account.)

You can edit the user record from the admin dashboard and set the status to “active”. It seems like this user didn’t complete the registration fully (hence the username is empty). Go to the “Admin Functions” menu and user the “Generate a Registration Completion link” feature to generate a link and complete the registration of this user.
