Hi,
When I try to download a protected file, I get asked again for the login. This repeats until finally I get:
Access Denied! Please provide valid username and password to download the file.
I’ve checked the error logs on the server which confirm it’s a password mis-match.
I’ve checked the relevant .htpasswd file which seems to have the users in with their encrypted passwords.
Can you advise what the issue may be?
Thanks
p.s. Turning off protection lets the file download properly. But obviously no prompt.
Please try it again, using a file name that does not have space characters. The “Space” character is not a valid character for a URL.
For example, you can name your file the following then upload it and use that:
Proven-Traffic-Mastery.pdf
I’m having this same problem as well. I thought it was because there were spaces in my PDF file name, but after I closed those spaces (and now there’s no spaces at all), it still asks me for the login information once again.
Also, if several protected PDF links are sent out in an email, for example, I assume that once a person clicks on a link to go to the PDF, they will have to login, but once they’re logged in, they can click on other PDF links in that email and they would be taken to the PDF without having to log in again, is that correct?
I also have an SSL security certificate from GoDaddy on the website, so all the URLs are begin with “https”. Could that be an issue as well? Thanks.
HTTPS shouldn’t cause any issue.
Are you login in via eMember’s login widget first? Then accessing the file?
The member needs to log into the site once (after creating the account), so the plugin can add/update the login details to the htaccess file.
If you check the following file, do you see an entry for this username that you are testing with?
wp-content/uploads/emember/downloads/.htpasswd
