I set up a new Membership Level and gave it the default membership role of Participant. Then I created a new forum. I set General Protection for that forum to true. I granted the new Membership Level access to the forum. However, any user that is logged in still has access to the forum and all it’s topics. Am I missing something?
#1 on this post leads me to believe that I can restrict a forum to a single Membership Level. Is that true?
February 21, 2013 at 12:50 am #53959adminKeymasterWhat version of eMember and WordPress are you using?
Please read this checklist which can be very helpful when content protection is not working:
Yes, you should be able to protect all topics that belong to a particular forum. Can you please post a link to the forum page in question so I can click on the topic of that forum and see what it does.
Also, check the following please:
1) Go to Forums -> All Forums
2) Click on the “edit” link for the forum in question
3) Scroll down to the eMember protection settings area in this page
4) Do you see the “Yes, Protect this content.” radio button checked?
March 9, 2014 at 9:26 pm #53960clearscopedesignParticipantWe are having a couple issues with eMember content protection on our bbPress forum. We have 2 forums, each which should only be accessible by a specific membership level.
The first issue is that if you go to either of the forums without the proper membership level, while you cannot see the content, there is no ‘You do not have permission to view this content’ message. So, it’s confusing for someone who doesn’t realize they don’t have the proper membership level. How do we get the ‘You do not have permission to view this content’ message to appear on protected forums?
The second issue is that search results within the forum do not seem to be protected at all. If you have access to one of the forums, and you do a search, you will be able to see results from the forum that you do not have permission/access to view. Can you please tell us how we rectify this?
Thank you!!!
March 11, 2014 at 2:11 am #53961adminKeymasterYou can customize that protection message using the following:
Our BBPress integration will ONLY protect the actual content of the post/topic (just like it does for wordpress posts). If a user doesn’t have permission to view the content of a topic, then that user won’t be able to. He will still know that the topic exists but just won’t be able to view it. Knowing that the content is there but not being able to read it is what we think makes someone wants to be a member (or upgrade a level). So our membership plugin’s architecture is geared towards that kind of setup.
