My product links are are not working for customers. Even copying the complete link into the browser is not working.
Customers are calling me and I’m having to manually send the product to them.
Funny thing, the link I receive works for me.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Nick
September 24, 2010 at 4:06 pm #24754wzpModeratorWe need some more information …
What happens when customers click on a link?
Is this happening to all customers or just some?
September 24, 2010 at 11:57 pm #24755amin007ParticipantCan you explain “not working for customers”? Do they get an error? What actually happens when they click on the link?
September 27, 2010 at 8:27 am #24756larsjoMemberHi everyone,
I have the same problem. The product download link in the customer email is not working. I have tested to buy myself, only to find that the link in the customer confirmation mail is “broken” and leads to a http 500 error page, claiming “internal server error”.
I have checked the “Digital content details” in my eStore settings to make sure I have pasted the correct url to the product on my web server. However, the encrypted link in the customer email just ends up at an err 500-page.
Funny, becuse the e-shop used to work earlier. I am not sure to when this problem first appeared. Could it have something to do with incompatability to newer WordPress versions?
I’m using the eStore Plugin in a WordPress 3.0.1 configuration.
Thanks for your help.
September 27, 2010 at 12:49 pm #24757njevicSpectatorMy customer has told me the the link did not work, which I take to mean that it did not come across as a hyperlink since he went on to say he had to copy and paste the link in his browser (which also did not work for him).
I sent him another link so he can tell me what happens when he pastes the link in the browser, which I’ll post here.
I am also on WP 3.0.1
September 27, 2010 at 5:47 pm #24758wzpModeratorThe links are sent as plain text. It’s up to the mail program to convert it into a click able hyperlink. If the mail program does something “strange and wonderful,” like trying to wrap the text, the link can become damaged; which would prevent copying and pasting from working.
What is your customer using to read their mail? Have them send you the original message back, and compare it to the link that was originally sent.
September 27, 2010 at 8:51 pm #24759njevicSpectatorThe original link the customer received mirrored received what I received in the email to me.
I’m not sure what he’s using to read email, but when he sent the link to me, it came across as a hyperlink that worked for me.
He did mention that he tried pasting into both Explorer and AOL browsers.
Still waiting for him to send back the error message (I had to send a new link). But when he first contacted me he mentioned that when pasting the link into the browser he received a message that stated that the website could not be accessed.
September 27, 2010 at 10:03 pm #24760njevicSpectatorFrom the customer:
“The link appeared in your email as an active URL. However, when I click on the link nothing happens and all I see is a blank screen (this time I did not see an error message). Sorry I could not be of more help, I hope you are able to resolve the problem.”
September 27, 2010 at 10:20 pm #24761wzpModeratorThe “blank screen” is indicative of eStore trying to start downloading to the browser. It would be nice, if you could find out what version of Explorer he’s using. And I believe that AOL is the old Netscape browser.
I’m sure the information could provide Amin with a better hint. Thanks.
September 28, 2010 at 12:21 am #24762njevicSpectatorI believe that he was still on IE7.
I think I’m wearing out my welcome by asking him more questions…
September 28, 2010 at 3:17 am #24763amin007ParticipantDoes this happen to all of your customers or just this one customer?
September 28, 2010 at 5:09 pm #24764njevicSpectatorMy last three customers, not including a fourth where the link in the email got split.
September 29, 2010 at 1:42 am #24765amin007ParticipantOkay so to sum it up… eStore sends an email to the buyer and the same email is wrapped with more info and sent to the admin (which is you).
Now if you click on the links that you get in your inbox the links work but the ones the buyer gets do not work?
September 29, 2010 at 2:11 pm #24766njevicSpectatorCorrect.
September 30, 2010 at 2:36 am #24767amin007ParticipantOkay.. I will send you an email to get site access to investigate this.
