Hi
We have a vast range of photographs to upload. The Gallery will feature 6 different crop sizes that are not a variant. This means we have to do physical variations for each shot so that the costs are not confusing to the customer. Would it be possible to be able to apply a price list to individual photographs rather than o the gallery?
Also would it be possible to use the ALT Text field as the Description shown on each photograph in the Gallery.
Regards
Mark

There is already a feature which allows you to apply custom prices for individual photos.
Simply go to your gallery settings page for the gallery you are interested in. Once there, scroll to the bottom and find the photo you want to apply the special price list for and click the “edit” link. This will open the photo edit window and you can then scroll down to the sections called:
“Custom Digital Variation Settings”
“Custom Physical Variation Settings”
You can use the above settings to create your specific variations for that photo.
November 23, 2016 at 2:35 pm #74653MakkBlakkMemberHi,
Thanks for the reply.
I understand that but it is quite a time consuming process as our galleries will contain differing crops. I was asking to see if there is another way?
What about the question regarding ALT Text being used as the photographs description rather than the uploaded file name?

The method I described is the only way to do the custom variation on a per photo basis.
Perhaps you could explain in a bit more detail exactly what you want to achieve?
Are you saying that you want some photos in your gallery to have different price variations to the others? What is it about those photos which differentiates them from the others in the gallery? Have you considered creating a separate gallery for those photos?
What about the question regarding ALT Text being used as the photographs description rather than the uploaded file name?
Do you mean the description in the photo details page?
Currently there is the ability to show a description on that page if you have entered some text in the “description” field in the photo edit page. Using the “alt” text as a description could be something we can look at as a possible new solution.
November 25, 2016 at 11:32 am #74655MakkBlakkMemberTo explain a little better:
In the gallery each section will have varying crop sizes. The price list can only show all the crop sizes as a general list. This may prove confusing to customers who are not necessarily knowledgeable about crop sizes and may therefore order the incorrect size for a particular photograph. I could create a different kind of menu but this will mean stepping outside of our layout parameters for the site as a whole.
Why not have the ability to attached a price list to a photograph within a gallery as a one click op rather than having to add 6 or 9 variations to each shot (This is due to mount and framing options as well as crop sizes)
As for the ALT Text:
The reason for this request is so we can keep our file naming system in place to help avoid staff adding duplicates we can then use more commercial names for the photographs on sale.
Hope this helps clarify
Thanks

November 28, 2016 at 11:15 am #74656PeterMemberHi Mark,
The price list functionality you are asking for is quite complicated is not something which can be knocked up quickly. I think your best bet for now is to create a separate gallery with its own price list whereby you can group your sizing based on your gallery/price list combinations.
Regarding the alt text – I think that could be something which might be possible to implement without changing too much of existing architecture. I will look into this and let you know.

I understand the difficulty of adding the method of attaching a price list to a particular image. However, unfortunately the way our catalogue is structured on our servers and also how the menu options have been put together for the site we cannot now change this.
Our initial upload to the site will be over 1,000 images so given the combination choices the customer has this will mean 18,000 entries.
Would you be looking at a solution for the future?
As for the ALT Text I will let you know early next week if we decide to carry on or find another plug in solution (Not an option I want to go for as I like the WP Photo seller). This will save you changing something for no reason.
Thanks
Mark

Even though I would really like a solution for the price list issue I can, for now, get around this by adding a size to the description. I would need to have the solution for ALT Text so that I can retain the original file names.

Regarding the alt text feature – I will try and have something for you by sometime next week.

December 8, 2016 at 8:42 pm #74662MakkBlakkMemberHi
I have sent you a reply email
January 9, 2017 at 9:22 am #74663ianbarberMemberI also am having the same issue as Mark.
I have a Gallery called Landscape Yorkshire
In that gallery are a selection of images which are both Landscape, Portrait and square format.
The gallery has been assigned to a Price List called Main Price List
Main Price List
10×8 £50
11×14 £65
10×10 £40 (for square images only)
people are still choosing a portrait style image and then selecting the square option (yes people do not read)
What would be a great option would be to edit the square image and assign it to a different price list just like you can assign it to a different price
January 10, 2017 at 12:25 pm #74664PeterMemberHi Ian,
Have you tried using the custom variation feature for the square images? Custom variations will override the main price list variations and will only apply to the images you set them for.
Regarding your request for this feature – implementing such functionality is not trivial and will involve quite a bit of development time. We also have other more urgent todo tasks on our list for this plugin which we need to complete first.
January 10, 2017 at 1:34 pm #74665ianbarberMemberHi Peter
Am I right in thinking that I can only override the actual price of an image and not give the customer size options ?
