Tagged: feature request, no usernames, purchase process
This is a feature request, but could an eMember hook be added to eStore so that if a ref_text is set, a user is prompted either to log in or fill in the registration information for that eMember level? Basically what happens is that if someone purchases a membership level from the cart or an individual button when they’re not logged in, a dummy account is created for them based on the email that has no username and no way to change that. This is a security risk (removing one variable from a hacking attempt) and requires database updates if it happens by accident.
We’re preventing the circumstance now by requiring a free account before any of the membership level buttons show, but this could cost interested subscribers because they can’t see what they want until after creating an account that they might not want.
All these are already covered with existing features. You just need to use them correctly.
1) You don’t have to hide your full landing/sales page. You only hide/protect the purchase button. eMember’s section/partial protection can help you with that:

This way the visitor can see all the details about your product as usual but they just can’t see the purchase button unless they log in.
2) You could also use estore’s members only addon which has a similar feature:

FYI – The accounts that eMember creates can be deleted from the manage members menu of the plugin. You simply click the delete button next to the record in question. This is not a security risk for anything. I am not sure why you think this could be? Any membership accounts that are incomplete can be completed by generating a new registration completion link. You can do that anytime from the admin functions menu of the eMember plugin.
