Thats how it used to be but then too many users complained and they wanted it so that a customer always have to confirm it once per transaction. So it was changed to that model because more users found that to be the better option. I had to pick the majority. Also it does make sense that a customer should acknowledge the shipping (otherwise they can later say that, “I didn’t know…”
Updating the shipping variation will never reset the cart. If this is happening then that means you may have a caching or the following issue:
