I’d like to be able to tell customers about the photo they are viewing in order to engage them better. Not a lot, just something like “This photo shows the water buffalo seconds before he charged. I was concentrating so much on the composition that I didn’t move until the last minute and was lucky to escape with only minor bruising. This can be purchased with X and Y to make a set”
Text to be displayed below the photo.
Can this be done?
March 23, 2015 at 4:03 am #69237PeterMemberYes you can easily do that.
1) Edit the applicable gallery settings for the gallery which contains the photo you want to add the comment for.
2) When inside the gallery settings page scroll down to where the photos are listed for that gallery and click on the “edit” link for the photo in question.
3) This will take you to the image edit window where you can enter your content in the caption box.
When doing the above, this will then be detected by the photo seller plugin and displayed in the photo details page whenever anyone is viewing that photo.
NOTE: If you have a photo which already includes a “caption” in the IPTC meta data before you upload it to WordPress, then photo seller/wordpress will automatically read it and populate that photo’s “caption” field during the upload stage. Hence the photo seller plugin will also display that caption when that photo is being viewed in the photo details page.
August 30, 2015 at 3:54 pm #69238ReesaMemberHi,
I have been trying to accomplish this with Template 9, but the caption does not display at all, whether on the Details page or the Add to Cart page. The description displays in the Add to Cart page, but not on the Details page.
Is there something about Template 9 that doesn’t allow descriptions or captions or the Details page?
See: [http://photosbysalz.com/photoalbums/gallery8/]
The first image has a caption and the second has a description.
August 30, 2015 at 11:44 pm #69239PeterMemberI can see the description for both of those photos on the details page.
The first says: “The name alligator is derived from ….”
The second says: “There are two species of alligator:….”
August 31, 2015 at 4:01 pm #69240ReesaMemberHi Peter, Could this be a browser problem? When I click the thumbnail at [http://photosbysalz.com/photoalbums/gallery8/] the slideshow appears and all I see is the title and an Add to Cart button.
How are you able to see the details? I use Firefox.
August 31, 2015 at 11:17 pm #69241PeterMemberHi,
The captions or description will only be displayed on the photo details (not the lightbox popup).
If you don’t see the description on the photo details page try clearing your browser cache or viewing the same page with a different browser.
September 2, 2015 at 3:05 pm #69242ReesaMemberOK. That’s a shame. Are there any plans to add a description or caption to the lightbox?
September 2, 2015 at 3:43 pm #69243ReesaMemberOr is there another template that will do what my client wants? He wants the photos in a gallery to display as thumbnails that will turn into a slideshow when clicked. And he wants the title and description, or caption, under each image in the slideshow, above the add to cart button.
September 8, 2016 at 6:25 am #69244WebitectMemberIs it possible to have BOTH captions and descriptions show up beneath the title on image details page?
September 8, 2016 at 11:06 am #69245PeterMemberOnly the description is currently shown in the details page.
September 8, 2016 at 2:41 pm #69246WebitectMemberHi Peter,
Thanks for the quick response. Is there a way to have the embedded IPTC caption imported to the description field? Or can a different IPTC field be mapped to import into the description field?
I have over 1000 images to move over to this software and cutting and pasting from caption to description is going to take me forever.
Thanks for the help.
September 9, 2016 at 12:25 am #69247PeterMemberLook in the photo seller Settings>>Advanced Settings.
There is a IPTC checkbox you can enable.
