I’m not familiar with setting up paypal checkouts for downloads so I am a little confused by this and hope that someone can help.
I’ve setup estore on a friends site to offer paid downloads of their albums.
I put through a test transaction and was sent an email from paypal that said:
“Thank You for your purchase. Product(s) will be delivered when the payment is cleared.”
But when I login to the sellers paypal account (which is a personal account) there are no payments waiting to be cleared / accepted.
Ideally we don’t want purchasers to encounter this hurdle.
Does the seller have to setup a business account?
Is there anything else I need to know?
Thanks in anticipation

But I am even more confused as the test transaction was carried out from my personal paypal account which is neither underfunded or suffering from any other forms of restriction. I regularly purchase from this account without any problems and when I inspect this particular transaction it is simply indicated as ‘unclaimed’ which, according to Paypal, can be caused by:
The recipient has not signed up to PayPal and has not yet received your payment
The recipient has a PayPal Personal account (which cannot receive more than five debit or credit card-funded payments a year)
The recipient hasn’t accepted the payment
The recipient has chosen to individually accept or decline payments from customers who don’t have a confirmed postal address.
When I look at the recipients paypal account there is no indication of unclaimed transaction funds and there is nothing to be accepted.
As a further test I have tried sending a similar amound to this recipients paypal account directly from paypal and I see the same issue: payment unclaimed.
To further verify that the issue is not with the buyers account I sent a payment to another paypal account that I have and the payment went through immediately without a problem.
So the issue appears to be with the recipients paypal account and not the buyers as you suggest.
Their account is a personal paypal account that is not verified – could this be the problem?
Thanks

Furthermore, you may experience difficulty processing credit card transaction through unverified accounts.
