I have encrypted website payments set to ON in my paypal account, and because of this my eStore buttons are not being accepted. is the only to fix this to turn OFF the encrypted website payments function or can i somehow encrypt the eStore created buttons? how much of a risk is it to accept non-encrypted buttons.

The main reason for using encrypted buttons instead of plain PayPal button is to make sure no one can look up the HTML source and inject variables and stuff into the form.

There is no risk when you use the WP eStore’s button cause the eStore has post payment verification which checks every details of the payment against the values stored in your product database to make sure the correct amount was paid for the product or service. The following URL explains this verification process in detail:

How to Fix the Seller Accepts Encrypted Payment Issue

This error is displayed because your PayPal Account Profile is set to only accept payments from “encrypted” buttons.

Do the following to turn off this option:

    1. Log in to your PayPal Account

    2. Click “Profile” link

    3. Under “Selling Preferences”, select “Website Payment Preferences”

    4. In the section titled “Encrypted Website Payments” select “Off”

    5. Click “Save”

Thank you. That worked for getting the test transaction through PayPal.

Now I have to find out why no download links come with the PayPal receipt. Again, I followed the tutorial step by step.

The only thing that I added to the product checklist the tutorial showed, was to check the box to stamp the pdf files using the Stamp plugin that I purchased with the eStore plugin.

Download links DO NOT come with the email from PayPal. They come in a separate email from eStore, AFTER PayPal sends a valid IPN message back to your site.

Please turn on the eStore debug logs, perform your test, and check for problems in the logs:
