I am using the compact login shortcode (wp_eMember_compact_login].
Sometimes when clicking the password reset from the login overlay everything is fine, but most of the time the overlay disappears on the password reset.
I was using a custom theme, but have switched the site to the standard 2016 theme to make sure that wasn’t the issue.
You can see it here: realskinsolutions.com/staging3.
The site will look a bit odd since it is using the 2016 theme instead of my custom theme, but the problem still remains
June 12, 2016 at 5:16 am #73383adminKeymasterUse the folloiwng option to make a specific password reset page rather than the overlay. You won’t have any issue with that:
June 12, 2016 at 5:46 am #73384RobertParticipantThanks. I’m aware of the password reset page option. Is there a bug with the password reset overlay that cant’ be fixed?
June 12, 2016 at 8:21 am #73385adminKeymasterNo bug. It works fine (I tested it just now to make sure). Remember there are a few thousands active install of that plugin. So if a core feature like that has a bug, there would be a lot of users posting it.
June 12, 2016 at 3:12 pm #73386RobertParticipantYes, I did wonder about that. So, that means it must be some kind of conflict with another plugin I have?

I doubt it. I also just tried your link and the overlay looks “just fine.”

What browser & version are you using?
June 13, 2016 at 2:36 am #73388RobertParticipantOccurs in the following versions:
Gogole Chrome Version 53.0.2766.0 canary (64-bit)
Firefox Version 46.0.1
Microsoft Edge Version 25.10586.0.0
Microsoft IE Version 11.306.10586.0
Mind you, it usually doesn’t happen on the first iteration, usually it’s the third time (meaning click login, click forgot password, close….repeat).
Maybe I’m being picky, but I’ve learned that if a user can do it, they will do it. Sometimes a user will try a few times to get it right, so they may follow various variations of my above scenario. That’s just the easiest way to get it to not work. There are other scenarios.

If it “works” on the first try; do you agree that “normal” user behavior does not include: click login, click forgot password, close….repeat ???
I sat here trying it on Chrome 51.0.2704.84 over and over again, without any failures. Anyone who repeatedly “bangs” your system that many times, before getting the described error; is obviously “doing it on purpose,” and IMHO shouldn’t be surprised at what they get.
The resulting error is essentially a visual artifact, in the browser, that in no way affects the security or integrity of your site.
June 13, 2016 at 6:22 am #73390RobertParticipantYes, I’d agree with you if it never happened on the first try. I just logged out of chrome and brought it back up. Happened on the first attempt at bringing up the password reset page. That’s really my only concern…happening on the first attempt.
Since it appears you are unable to recreate the issue on the first attempt in your browser, I’ll look for a solution to the more recent browsers.
Thanks for the help.
June 13, 2016 at 11:59 am #73391wzpModeratorAccording to Google:
The latest version of Chrome is: 51.0.2704.84
You are running:
Gogole Chrome Version 53.0.2766.0 canary (64-bit)
That is a beta version of Chrome. According to Google:
Google Chrome Canary has the newest of the new Chrome features.
Be forewarned: it’s designed for developers and early adopters, and can sometimes break down completely.
As such, you should not be surprised that there are some issues, that still need resolution.
As a side note; canaries were historically used by miners to test the toxicity of air in underground mines. This has not been lost on the developers at Google, as they seek to “test” new browser features, on the user population.
June 13, 2016 at 7:13 pm #73392RobertParticipantYes, I am aware of that. That’s why I tested it in 3 other browsers. All at one point or another failed on the first attempt.
