Noting backorder when selecting a variation

Is there a way to note that product is backordered but only with a specific variation? (as in when you choose that size, a message of “Backordered until 9/15” appears)

No.

1. The idea of backorders (usually) only applies to physical products.

2. It creates another manual maintenance task for the store owner to perform.

3. Accomidating such a feature requires a moderately extensive modification to the plugin. You are however, invited to add your request to the eStore feature wish list:
