During testing and for at least a few signups in September and October, everything was running fine on my clients site. But recently they’ve had people complain that they’ve paid, but can’t log in.
Visitors make their payment at PayPal
They’re returned to our “Thanks, expect an email” page on the website
Then, nothing. No follow up email, no account created on the back end.
I’ve been going through the tests in the Forums and here’s what I’ve done so far:
No plugins on the bad list. And no new ones added since everything was working.
Double-checked that PayPal button has correct info.
No 404 message when I try to access the IPN file for eMember.
No “Deny all” in the htaccess file
Reinstalled WP eMember
Reinstalled again with latest version – 8.7.8
Turned on Debug during a transaction – absolutely nothing in the file.
Have not yet tried turning off all other plugins.
As I say, all plugins and the Theme have been there since the time when the signup process was working.
Working with WP 3.5.1 now and during the time it was working.
We have WooCommerce running alongside (including during time it was working).

1) Your server’s configuration or a plugin is blocking PayPal’s IPN from reaching the membership plugin.
or
2) The IPN feature is disabled in your PayPal merchant account.
Please go to the following post and do step 5 and 6 (It has some mention of eStore but the principle is the same):

It will help you figure out which of the above is happening and address it.

Anyway, based on your checklist I went back to double-check the IPN settings in PayPal.
While the URL for the IPN was filled in, someone had Disabled “send messages” and I hadn’t noticed (I’ve now Enabled it).
They had also turned on Payment Data Transfer (PDT), which I’ve now turned off.
I think they had made those last two changes when they put in WooCommerce, despite the fact that WooCommerce does not require either of them.
So now I’m getting the debug messages, the account is getting created, and the email for registration is going out. Thanks so much!
