Is there a way to hide the main product price in method 2 so that only the variations show. e.g. change or delete code to prevent this displaying. I want to set the main product as zero and then have variations which reflect the actual price not product price + variation price.

Please post a link to the page where you have the product/image display so I can see how you currently have it setup.
