Hi,
I’m looking for some custom work and you are the first people I thought of.
I’m setting up a website where I offer my music, free via digital download, to people to use in their video projects. I’m using eMember to lock the site down as the site is only available by invitation. I’m using eStore but with a $0 price for each song and manual checkout only. So far that works just fine.
What I need is the ability for each user to create multiple playlists that they can save and refer back to. What I’m thinking is to create multiple versions of a shopping cart and each version could be named and saved. Also each song item in the play list would be “playable”. Maybe the shopping cart is not the best way and you might have a better idea on how to approach this.
I can send you login information if you interested.
Thank you

November 14, 2011 at 12:36 am #38428adminKeymasterI have plans to add a “Save Cart” function which might come in handy as your customers will be able to add items to the cart and then save it but I don’t know what to do with the “playlist name” part.
November 14, 2011 at 2:01 am #38429Art MunsonSpectatorThe “Save Cart” function sounds ideal. Would they be able to save more than one cart? If so that would satisfy that aspect. The other aspect is the ability to “play” the song files in the cart.
Here is the scenario. A customer comes to the site and selects a series of songs that they want to use on a video project. They are able to save that list of songs using the “Save Cart” function. They also have another project they are working on and save another series of songs. They need to go back to that first saved cart and review the songs again by playing them from the saved cart.
At any time they would be able to complete the order of a saved cart and then receive the necessary links to download the songs.
Hope that is clear enough.

November 18, 2011 at 12:49 am #38431adminKeymasterI can add the save cart as mentioned earlier and also add the ability to do multiple saves (so each cart save can act as a play list) but I don’t know what to do for actually playing the file in the cart. I just don’t see this being implemented correctly. The shopping cart’s job is not really to play the songs… I feel that this should be handled outside the cart. For example, create a system that allows your users to create playlist with the songs and be able to play them and stuff. When they want to buy songs they will be able to click a button or link next to the list and add the item to the cart and checkout. This is how most music stores implement a solution like this.
November 18, 2011 at 1:29 am #38432Art MunsonSpectatorWould you be interested in developing a playlist feature, as you suggested, as a custom job? Unfortunately I can’t find a plugin that can do that.
November 19, 2011 at 12:39 am #38433adminKeymasterThis will be the job of a mp3/music player type plugin. I don’t specialize in that kind of functionality so I would recommend you get a developer who specialize in mp3/music player type plugins.
