Must a member’s email address be unique?

We have several husband & wife members that use the same email address. Right now, eMember won’t let me add a member if the email address I enter is already in another member’s profile. Is there a way to allow duplicate email addresses in our list of members?

Unfortunately, it cannot be easily done. For one thing, payment processing for memberships is tied to email addresses; ditto for renewals and expirations.

If they are using Gmail addresses, they can create aliases, by inserting 1 or more “.” period characters into a normal Gmail address. Gmail counts doe.family and doefamily as the same address, but eMember and PayPal, et al, count them as 2 unique addresses.

And if they are using Outlook or Hotmail email addresses, they can create alternative email aliases, that point to the same inbox.
