Modifying Autoresponder code for others (ie, Vertical Response)

Is there a reasonable way to modify the PHP code to submit the new client data (post sale) to our email mgmt provider (Vertical Response)? I understand that every service is a bit different, however, I would think that some features are similar, like appending a mailing list with new data, or CSV uploads, etc.

Or, do we need to settle on manually exporting client data in a CSV file and then uploading to Vertical Response?
