Hi guys,
Does anyone know if I can get registration forms to capture users information BEFORE they are brought over to paypal to collect payment. I’m using the eStore plugin as well as eMember.
It would be confusing to have a free membership option as well as a premium one as in reality there are only paid memberships to this organisation.
October 26, 2012 at 10:48 pm #50781PeterMemberHi, You are not required to have both free and paid memberships on your site. It is just an option. You can have premium memberships only if you want.
So if you are saying that you do not want to offer a free membership option but instead want to sign people up automatically based on the purchase of a product via eStore then you should see this documentation:
Also you can disable free membership by unchecking the “Allow Free Membership” in the eMember settings page.
As far as capturing information, the plugin will capture the email address and name used by the customer when they make their purchase and then it will automatically send a “please complete your registration” email to them with a special link so they can choose a username and password.

I have it set up as described just having a tough time trying to get the users to actually fill out that form which is absolutely essential. is there any way to make them fill out the form first and fully?
October 30, 2012 at 9:49 pm #50783PeterMemberHi,
Can you please clarify a bit more the exact process flow of your store from purchase/signup to delivery?
At the end of purchase (and signup) what are you delivering to the customer? Is it a downloadable/digital product?
Once we understand exactly what you want to achieve we can give you some more specific advice
Tell us which registration flow you are using from the following documentation so we can visualize how you have setup your registration:

A link to your product/purchase page would be good too.

This is a school alumni membership site with protected content for members (death notices, articles and a shop for ties, cufflinks etc.)
The most important function for the plugin is to capture a range of personal information when a member joins such as the year they graduated, their current company etc.
This is all handled admirably by the custom fields.
The flow that I need is as follows:
Members click “join” – they fill out an obligatory and fuller registration page with a long form (including all my custom fields for grad year, address, phone number etc.) – in the next screen they pay via paypal – finally they get a confirmation email
At the moment when a member clicks to joing they go set a username and pay and get an email pleading them to fill out the registration form (Member Signup Scenario 1 as per your document on registration flow).
This email is very frequently ignored so I need them to fill out the registration form with custom fields first before collecting payment.
October 31, 2012 at 10:39 pm #50785PeterMemberHi,
You say that currently the customers set a username before payment.
The setting of username/password should happen after payment which means that the customer will be obliged to fill in the form if they wish to access their protected content.
Therefore it appears that maybe your setup is not correct.
Provided you have set your system up as per scenario 1, if your users ignore the registration email they will not be able to log in to get access to their protected content. So it’s in their best interests that they do not ignore the registration email.
Can you please send a link to your product page so we can take a quick look?
