When I log into my WordPress site using a contributor account that was created directly through WordPress (rather than eMember), I can access the pages to edit my profile and create posts (/wp-admin/profile.php and /wp-admin/edit.php). When I log into WordPress using an account created by eMember, which is linked to the WordPress contributor account type, I cannot access these pages. When I try to access those pages, I am redirected to the main WordPress log in page.
I thought that accounts created through eMember have the same access privileges as the WP account types they are linked to. Do I have to create new pages within eMember to allow editing of profile and posts, or can I access the default WP pages for this?

That assumption is correct but you need to make sure that the “Role” you specified in the membership level is correct and there is no other plugin interfering anything. Did you set the role to be “Editor” in the membership level in question?
Also, you should be using eMember auto login feature. Did you check all the 3 options shown in the screenshot of the following documentation?
February 2, 2013 at 9:58 pm #53460Gabriella HovarthMemberThe problem seems to be that the accounts I imported into eMember using PHP MyAdmin are not active. If I manually create an account in eMember, that account can log into the main WP login page and access all the expected dashboard pages. I imported the members following the instructions provided on your site and relying on the help of your tech support to overcome or work around a number of problems.
The following options in settings are all checked:
Automatically Create WordPress User:
Automatically log into WordPress:
Automatically log into eMember:
Is there a way to get imported members to work correctly?
February 3, 2013 at 11:19 pm #53461adminKeymasterAccounts I imported into eMember using PHP MyAdmin are not active
If you go to eMember’s manage members menu and look at a member record that you imported. What is the account status set to?
If it is not set to “active” then that means when you imported it, you didn’t set a value of “active” for the account_state column. What value did you use for that column when importing?
February 7, 2013 at 12:56 am #53462Gabriella HovarthMemberThat value for most of the accounts is set to “active” though it is “expired” for some. The active accounts are not showing up in the WP members list.
I have some other plugins installed that affect accounts. Could they be interfering with eMember and causing the problem? Those plugins are:
Role Scoper
Subscribe2
Simply Exclude
Ultimate Category Excluder
February 7, 2013 at 10:19 pm #53463adminKeymasterYeah the other plugins could interfere but the first thing we need to make sure is that you are importing the user correctly. Just test with one user account first so you can see where things are going wrong. Import one user account and make sure it is showing up in the eMember members list as a record and the status is set to active. Until that happens, it means the issue is the way you are importing it or when you are importing it another plugin is doing something with it.
