I am getting complaints that members who request a password reset are not able to get in with the new password they were assigned in the reset email.
I updated the plugin a couple of months ago and that helped but the problem still persists.
Any ideas?
Thanks
March 25, 2014 at 9:39 pm #61844wzpModeratorHave you personally tried to reset your own password and verified that the system works? Because this is likely a user error.
Were they actually typing in the passwords, or were they trying to copy/paste? Sometimes, copying a password from an email can have extra empty space at the end which will make it not work.
What version of the plugin are you using?
March 26, 2014 at 1:50 pm #61845apouchMemberHI thanks for getting back to me.
I can check about the copy/paste – I actually am not sure. They were using 8.7.8 – I just again updated the version.
I have no problem resetting my own password nor do others in this organization.
Is there any chance that the browser they are using could be a factor in this? Like some weird IE thing?
I am going to have my client try a bunch of things next time a user reports this happening.
When I updated to 8.7.8 from a much older version of wp-emember it seemed to clear up the problem except for this one occurrence.
Thanks again.
March 26, 2014 at 4:34 pm #61846wzpModeratorNeither plugin versions or browsers play any part in the situation. The copy/paste issue is strictly a hand/eye, finger/mouse, coordination problem. People are inherently lazy, and will always choose copy/paste over typing in a password.
March 27, 2014 at 1:57 pm #61847apouchMemberThanks I may have found the issue – sort of crazy but when the wp member was installed – all the members from an existing database were imported into emember using the last name as the username – so there are many duplicate last names/usernames as I just discovered. The bulk input accepted it but I think the situation is that the people finding problems are ones who have last names that exist as user names for more than one member. Nuts I know I am not sure how that decision was made.
Anyway – to resolve I guess we will have to manually go into and reassign unique usernames for those duplicates.
Does this make sense to you?
Thanks again~!
