Hi guys,
I’m pretty happy with WP-Affiliate so far. I’ve had to edit a bit of the html output, but that’s ok.
One piece I’m struggling with is how I can limit commission awards to the first sale only per referral. I’m using the Remote POST with FoxyCart, so it looks like the commission is awarded via an IP lookup of the referrer. I’ve set the timeout to 1 day, but that doesn’t seem to be working with the FoxyCart integration. I was awarded commissions for 3 days for the same referral during testing.
Thanks for your help.

You can control the time duration using the “Cookie Life” field. Now, when you changed the value in that field, you will need to delete all your cookie from the browser so new cookie will be set for new referrals. Did you do that?

I’ve been trying to convince the client of this model. They’re resistant.
I have cleared my cache and tested on various browsers. I’ll test one more time. The problem with setting the interval to one day is that we do timed sales and some days there are no sales. So, if we set the interval to 1 day, some referrals would never earn a commission. If we set the interval to 3 days, some referrals could earn a lot of commissions.
I (think I) saw in another thread that there was an option to limit the commission to the first sale if we use the e-store plugin. Is that code not portable?
Thanks again.

July 3, 2013 at 11:54 pm #56420adminKeymasterI have a question for you. What happens when an affiliate refers a customer and the customer makes a purchase. Then the affiliate refers the same customer again a few days later. Using your client’s method no commission will be given for this 2nd transaction but the affiliate genuinely referred the customer again?
Did you tell your client that, it may be very hard to get anyone to promote if this type of affiliate commission model is implemented (affiliates usually want their fair share of commission).
Anyway, I think we can do a custom job to add some extra checking to do what your clients want. If your client is open to getting some custom development done then fill out this form:
