Hi,

Point: Google likes videos and oftentimes gives them fast page one placement.

I’m planning on producing affiliate marketing review videos, hosting them on Amazon S3 and then using the Lightbox Ultimate Plugin to display them on my site.

    Here’s my question:

If I use the LightBox Ultimate Plugin for my videos will Google know the video is on my page if what I actually have displayed on my page is an image representing the video?

I understand if my question is confusing, let me take another run at the question in a more direct way:

Do I need to directly embed a video on my webpage for Google to know it’s there? Will using the LightBox Ultimate Plugin prevent Google from knowing my review video is on my web page?

    Regards,

    Mark

Hi Mark, Google sees your webpage the same way you see it in the browser. The LightBox won’t prevent Google from identifying the video on your page because if you view the source of your page in your browser you’ll see something like the following:

    <img src=”http://www.yourdomain.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/yourimage.jpg” alt=”Video title goes here”/>

As you can see the video is encased in an anchor tag and my understanding is that this can be crawled by Google.

ps: I tried pasting the HMTL code to show you exactly what you’ll see but the browser is executing the code and turning it into a link.

The point is, if you look at the link location above you’ll see it points to a youtube video because of the “href=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGhTxxxxxx”

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for the help.

I had a feeling that what you explained was true. I guess only time and experimenting will tell.

I’ve really bought into the idea that video is the way to go and have been shown that videos, even lousy videos, oftentimes end up on page one of Google.

I’ll give my videos and the LightBox Ultimate Plugin a try and share how things turn out.

    Regards,

    Mark
