Recently I purchased a pdf that uses the the WP PDF Stamper technology. The footer stamp included the buyer’s IP address in the stamp (IP number). I am using v4.4.6 of the plugin. This is my text to stamp: Licensed to {customer_name} of {customer_address}. Email address: {customer_email} which stamps the buyer’s entered address. Is there a dynamic variable to stamp the customer’s actual IP number? I would prefer their IP address which can’t be faked instead of their entered address.
December 9, 2014 at 8:09 am #67275adminKeymasterYes, it should be possible to stamp the IP address in the PDF file for some situations. The IP address is not going to available for all scenarios (thats why I am saying *some situations*).
How are you currently using it?
December 10, 2014 at 12:07 am #67276Gordon BanksMemberI am not using it. I purchased another PDF where the IP address is stamped. I want to implement it. Please send instructions to stamp IP address.
December 10, 2014 at 5:11 am #67277adminKeymasterCan you give me a use case scenario so I can see if the IP address stamping will be viable for that scenario?

Licensed to {customer_name} of {customer__IP_address}. Email address: {customer_email}
I am starting to think that there is no dynamic variable for grabbing the buyer’s IP address and that the developer modified the plugin to grab the IP address. If you send me your email address, I will send you a screenshot of the pdf with the stamped IP address in the footer.

So, what happens when:
- They purchase the file from a hotel Internet connection?
- They purchase the file using a work, school or library Internet connection?
- Or their mobile device, while roaming.
In other words, what is the point of stamping a piece of metadata that has no non-repudiation value?

Any lawyer will tell you there is no “of” when it comes to tying a person to an IP address.
December 11, 2014 at 5:43 pm #67281Gordon BanksMemberCan I decide if the IP address is of value? Others are stamping the IP address. Can you just tell me if it is possible to stamp the IP address (yes or no) and if yes, what is the dynamic variable is? Thanx!
December 11, 2014 at 10:51 pm #67282adminKeymasterThere is no variable at the moment. I am going to add one for this. When I asked for the use case, I meant how is the file being purchased or downloaded. Is it integrated with a PayPal button or eStore or WooCommerce? If I know this info then I will know what to do next.
December 12, 2014 at 6:47 pm #67283Gordon BanksMemberI understand now. In my case, I am using the PDF Stamper with WooCommerce. In WooCommerce, my only payment option is Paypal. Here is why I am considering stamping the IP address vs. the physical address. One: other knowledge developers are doing it with their PDFs. Two: A “black hat” purchaser would not include their real address at checkout, the IP address might give better clues as to where the “black hat” purchase occurred. Three: Yes, the IP address might be meaning less if the purchase was done on holiday, but most purchases will be done from or near home. I look forward to your update and for your consideration in this request.
December 13, 2014 at 4:20 am #67284adminKeymasterAdded a new dynamic tag {ip_address}
I have sent you an update via email so you can test it out.
December 15, 2014 at 7:53 pm #67285Gordon BanksMemberThe new dynamic tag works fine. Thanx for your prompt assistance.
December 24, 2014 at 3:57 pm #67286morleyMemberCould you guys also make the variable available for eStore users who use PDF Stamper? Thanks.
