IPN product validation failed

I am setting up my first PayPal buy now button and am having problems:

I ‘completed a sale’:

My wife selected the paypal button, went to paypal, paid the 0.01 and was sent to my thank you page.

But, I did not receive the money, she was not added to my autoresponder or to my members list.

I got it to post complete the sale (posted to my PayPal account and I accepted the amount) and it sent the reply to for my thank you page.

But, it has not posted to my Aweber or posted the new member. Could this be the problem with posting the new member ‘Memship payment paid for membership level ID: ‘ with no level id?

My variable that I posted to the button was:

notify_url=http://www.stressfactsandinfo.com/members/wp-content/plugins/wp-eMember/ipn/eMember_handle_paypal_ipn.php

custom=subsc_ref=2

And this is the correct level for my paid membership.

The url is http://stressfactsandinfo.com/

I can see that the custom field is empty in the data posted by PayPal. So the plugin doesn’t know which membership level the payment has been made for. Do you have any space between the notifiy URL and the custom value?

I did have a return between the url and the custom=subsc_ref2

I took the statement on PayPal to say I needed the break but it looks as if this is all one variable

‘Use a line break between each variable. The variables will appear in your button’s HTML code’

I will test it in a bit.

Yes there is a space between the url and the custom value, if there was not you would not get sent to the thank you page.

I have watched and followed and am still getting the same problem, payment made but not returning the membership id number.

Here is my variable that I put in PayPal

notify_url=http://www.stressfactsandinfo.com/members/wp-content/plugins/wp-eMember/ipn/eMember_handle_paypal_ipn.php custom=subsc_ref=2

Still your custom field is empty. That means PayPal is not getting the custom value you have specified. Can you please make sure that you enter the variables in the following format?

notify_url=http://www.stressfactsandinfo.com/members/wp-content/plugins/wp-eMember/ipn/eMember_handle_paypal_ipn.php

custom=subsc_ref=2

Just a tip… open notepad and paste the following two lines separately:

notify_url=http://www.stressfactsandinfo.com/members/wp-content/plugins/wp-eMember/ipn/eMember_handle_paypal_ipn.php

custom=subsc_ref=2

Make sure the two variables are each on their own line (no extra line space or empty space). An extra line space or just an empty space can make it so PayPal doesn’t parse the fields correctly so its important to get it right.

Now, copy this from the notepad and paste it into that variable field on PayPal. You will see that the custom=subsc_ref=2 will be on its own line and there won’t be an empty line space above it.
