    Hi,

Well the cart performed wonderfully this past Fall…we sold just under 8,000 downloads from Aug – Oct. We would have doubled this amount but our web hosting provider misconfigured Linux when migrating to a dedicated server. Basically they shut our site down the heaviest four days during the last week of October.

That being said, the cart itself worked GREAT!!!! The customers loved the interface and reported that the purchasing experience was smooth :)

I’m starting preparations for this coming Fall and was wondering if it would be good to index a few of the tables…and if so, which ones? My last hosting provider told me they indexed a few tables for the cart so I’d like to go in and see what they have done and setup any indexes you think would help. I’m not sure what queries to run to see indexed tables or to set them up…

    Thanks,

    ~ Jack

Glad to hear that (minus the server being down part).

You can index the products table if you want but I don’t really see that is it necessary. These sort of optimization comes in handy if you are getting huge amounts of traffic. Until that point it adds more hassle than the benefit in my opinion.

My personal experience: I have a site where I get 20,000+ daily traffic and I don’t do any of this stuff and things run fine for me. A properly configured good dedicated server is all you really need.

Anyway, this MySQL doc might help you with what you are after:

Awesome…thanks! We just moved to VPS.NET Cloud Hosting. It uses LiteSpeed as opposed to Apache and they have assured me that its’ scalability will more than handle the 2,000 concurrent users we get during busy rushes :)

That article looks very helpful….thanks :)
