Hi,
My product is about 2.5 gig worth of audio files.
How would I go about selling this from the estore plugin, as the max upload is 64 megs… I can split up the audio files, but some of them are over 64 megs, so its not really possible.
If I zip all the files together its about 2.5 gigs, so what would be the best way to approach this and host the files?
Thanks,
Use something like Amazon S3 for the storage of your audio files.
See this link for more info about integrating S3 with eStore:
Thanks Peter,
Is there a cheaper alternative to S3?
eStore has no “upload limit.” That is coming from WordPress. You should be using an FTP client, such as FileZilla in the binary transfer mode.
However, considering the size of the file, it is a wise decision to consider the use of Amazon S3 for hosting; because you will most certainly run into technical issues when buyers begin downloading the files.
For the first year, Amazon offers a free usage tier:
You can sell products side by side, some with self hosting, and others hosted on Amazon S3; and compare the differences in buyer experience. I’m sure that you will find the Amazon experience much better than self hosting.
Also, eStore owners have been reporting monthly charges of less than $1 for use of S3 services. As a good business practice, you should price your products accordingly, to cover business overhead costs.
Finally, I’d like to argue that because of Amazon’s recent price decrease for use of S3, it would not make good business sense to not use S3; except for contractual, security, or ego reasons.
