Hi,
I have a members area access, it is currently set up so that once a client registers, they can freely enter the members site… However i want to set it up in a way where once the client fills in the registration form, they will receive an email stating- “Pending membership access, waiting for approval.”
Then i need an email notifying me that some one has registered and waiting for approval.
I need this feature for this circumstance so that i can specifically gain access to those who qualify… is it possible to do?
Thank you.
Kris.

July 12, 2011 at 9:39 pm #29038kayMemberI love the plugin so far but I, too, would love to have a setting so that members (free) must still be approved before they can freely enter the member areas. Otherwise, anyone can fill in the registration forms with bogus info and get to my protected areas.
I have read all the forum topics and have done as indicated in the workaround/tweak you linked to above. Everything is fine EXCEPT now I need to know HOW, EXACTLY, I go about “manually activating” that member (whom I just told, in the auto-email, would be allowed into the site, PENDING APPROVAL by admin). I went into the “Manage Members” area and the pending member is showing and there is “inactive” in his account state field, but I cannot click that and ACTIVATE him. How do I manually activate him now that I want to actually approve him? And will it send him another email saying he is active now, or should I tell him in the language file to keep checking back and trying to log in? (Right now he is getting a red message that says his account is inactive pending approval.)
Hope this makes sense,
Thanks!
PS: I noticed several people in the forum are using this plugin as I am using it and wanting to have approval capabilities. Any chance you can update the plugin to incorporate these features? Including the appropriate notification email language, as needed? That would be SO great.
July 12, 2011 at 10:56 pm #29039kayMemberOK! I figured out how to manually activate a member. Duh! (Member list –> edit member –> then scroll DOWN to where the dropdown marked “account state” is and toggle to “active.”) (In case anyone comes by and wants to know.)
I still would love to have a way to have the approval process mentioned above and by others. For sites like ours, it would be a huge help. The site is for residents of a community-living situation and we are not “selling” anything but we want residents to sign in to see protected content (they need access to downloads, and other info not for the public, perhaps a bulletin board, etc. etc.).
BUT, we don’t want the whole site to be private. Not at all. Tricky, huh? Also, the “approval of each registration by an admin” feature would GREATLY reduce the chances of anyone who is in fact NOT a resident but who is faking a registration just to get into protected areas before admin notices and blocks them. Know what I mean? You may think no one would bother to do a fake registration (real email, but fake everything else), but we really do need to insure that ONLY *actual* (verified by street address, REAL name, etc.) residents can access the (yes, free) materials, and we need this to be accomplished without blocking huge sections of the entire site or making the whole site “private.” See what I mean? The materials we want to put on the site for people are things like meeting notes and and have info in them that is not for the general public or internet robots, etc. etc.
Other people have explained what I would like better than I just did:

Thank you for any help!
Love the plugin, overall!

Manually Approve Member Registration
Please get a new build of the eMember plugin from here:
https://support.tipsandtricks-hq.com/update-request
After the update check that option and every member will need to be manually approved before he/she can log in.
July 13, 2011 at 10:47 am #29041kayMemberWow, thank you SO much for the reply. I have requested the manual update as you suggested above and look forward to receiving it and implementing the updated plugin with the new feature(s). Again, thank you!
