I want to sell updates from a digital product with a fixed discount to existing customers who bought previous version of my software. How to config? Only existing clients who bought this product should be able to get this discount.
Thanks for help
September 20, 2012 at 1:09 pm #49501PeterMemberHi,
I’m not aware of any eStore functionality which will apply discounts for existing customers only.
If you were using eMember in conjunction with eStore you could make it so that when your customers bought your product for the first time, they would be automatically added to a particular membership level.
Then when you want to sell updates for the product you can apply a coupon code to the product and protect it within the membership plugin such that only your existing customers (ie, members) can buy it at the discounted level.

Alternatively, you could setup a coupon code and include it with the initial product. Then, setup a second update product with the coupon code. You can then separately track who purchases the update; with or without the coupon. This approach more closely emulates “real life,” and minimizes the amount of unwanted tracking.

I could create additional memberships so I would have; e.g., GOLD and GOLD-Renewal, et al, but that makes me check a bunch more boxes when protecting content.
An alternative extra membership would be to let me create an ‘alias’ membership such that GOLD-Renewal is assigned to the GOLD member level. Then my renewal page has all XXX-Renewal memberships that assign the member to the XXX membership level.
