Hello everyone, I have an unusual problem to solve. I’m working on a project for the National Science Foundation. We’re using WP eMember to divide our users into three groups who have permission to see three different parts of the site. This works well. (NOTE: users aren’t supposed to know there’s three groups of users. It’s a research secret.)
However, the team wants to use bbPress for community forums. The search function of bbPress can’t not show search results of pages that a user can’t see – the pages appear in search results, and then WP eMember gives the user an error message if they try to visit those pages (this is proper behavior).
To get around this, we’re thinking we could have three separate sites behind the login page and use WP eMember to send users to the correct site. But then that user would have to be authenticated on the second site.
Is there any way to do that which doesn’t require the user to enter their username and password a second time?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
– Steve
Currently, there is no SSO (Single Sign On) or pass-through mechanism available.
Isn’t it possible for you to instead, have each of the 3 groups log into their own sites? Or, if eMember is “doing its job,” by denying access to the restricted posts; could you instead edit the error messages, so that they appear “less harsh?”
The folloiwng is a good post to read so you know how WordPress plugins work in general:
