How many characters can be put in the shopping cart item description?

As we use custom input field and variances, the description of each item that is added to the shopping cart gets longer. What is the upper limits (character counts) that can be passed to authorize.net paypal, etc.? or to avoid other issues that I don’t know.

I found the answer on other post by the famous 007 on this forum

“I haven’t tested the limits but theoretically 255 characters should be safe. “

Question closed unless anybody has tried and figured out the actural limit.
