How does the Referrer ID work?

I noticed a field for referrer ID and was wondering if this acts as a default. For example, if someone is originally referred by personA, then later purchases something from a link from personB. After X number of days, link from personB expires but the buyer comes back, not clicking any links, does the commission go to personA since that was the original referrer and is set as the referrer ID?

Sorry if I made that sound more confusing than it needed to be. Thanks for your help!

There is a referrer ID field in few different places. Which one are you talking about?

Sorry, it’s in the Add/Edit Affiliates area.

That would be the referrer ID of the parent affiliate (if any). This is used for 2nd tier commission if you are using this feature.
