Hi,
I have spent about a week playing around with both nextGen and eStore and think that they will do exactly what I require which is setting up my own photo library. I am however a little unclear about how the gallery-wp-eStore-auto.php works.
Having added my photos to become my thumbnails if I resize them and watermark them for viewing using thickbox I see that the original is still there with /backup added. Is there a way to use this file as the photo the customer downloads? This seems to me to be a better way of doing things than then having to upload the photo that customers buy to another directory.
I am still also unclear as to how when using the alternative method to upload a large number of photos, how the programme links to the correct photo to download. If it has an ID for the for the template which may be nature1.jpg how if someone buys nature2.jpg does it link to that one and not give the download link for nature1.jpg?
Also if I were to upload the photos that I hope the customers are going to buy to another site I assume that I could just link to that site (for the template in the alternative method)for the downloads when they buy.
All the best

2) http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/nextgen-gallery-alternate-integration-method-805
When you use the automated method (2nd option) the plugin knows which image the customer is purchasing from the gallery (each nextgen gallery image has a unique ID that is used as a reference). So if the customer hits the buy button for nature2.jpg then the plugin knows to server that file after the payment.
August 3, 2011 at 8:25 am #35004buytheimageMemberThank you for your quick response. I have read the two articles and am a still a little confused. I now understand that it will choose the correct picture but will that picture it cooses be the original or the reduced sized with watermark the customer downloads if I have done the following:
Upload an image say 2592px x 1936px and once uploaded into the gallery use the reduce size (to make it a better size to see in thickbox) and the watermarked it at the same time.
I presume that if I use the 2nd option the programme would not be able to find the correct photo if the originals that the customer buys were stored on a different server?
In this case I assume that using the CSV system would be a better choice having read the aticle “How to Bulk Upload eStore Products from a CSV File”. There are however two questions about this method that I do not follow:
1. In the Specify the General Options section it says Enter “wp_wp_eStore_tbl” but on this page in the programme it says the file is wp_products_table. Whish is correct?
2. If you have products already in the library how can I add more using the CSV method?
Once again thank you for your quick response.
All the best

If you want to customize which version of the image gets sent to the user after a purchase the 1st method is the way to go. You can bulk upload items to eStore using one of the following techniques:
1. http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/ecommerce/how-to-bulk-upload-estore-products-from-a-csv-file-775
Use the table name exactly as it says in the documentation.
August 3, 2011 at 10:28 am #35006buytheimageMemberOnce again thank you for the quick reply, it is now becoming clearer.
I would say that it is a shame that I can’t use the backup file of the photo once it has been resized but unfortunately due the file name ending in .jpg/backup this seems to stop this being used without removing the backup part. Maybe this should be on my wish list for the programme that the download could be this file which would mean that you could watermark and reduce the viewed picture and the customer would download the original. This would be a great add on with a box that allowed this to happen.

August 3, 2011 at 7:07 pm #35007buytheimageMemberHi,
If I was to upload all my downloadable images into a gallery called downloads then I can link to them. If I have also downloaded all the watermarked files to the galleries that will be viewed is there anyway to link the ID of the watermarked image to the ID of the downloaded image other than manually? If this could be done it would then make the pictures seen more secure as these would not be the originals.
All the best

When you resize and put watermark if it just adds a known keyword (for example “backup”) to the image name and keeps it in the same directory then you should be able to tweak the downloader of eStore to construct the URL of the original image and serve that to the customer.
Regarding your other question… I don’t know of any method to link the watermarked image with the downloaded image.
August 4, 2011 at 5:56 am #35009buytheimageMemberI would have thought the same but this is beyond my capabilities to somehow use the file with backup on. Where would I go to see if there is someone who maybe able to help with this as I am sure it would be a great tweak?
August 4, 2011 at 7:24 am #35010amin007ParticipantPlease send me a sample of the original file URL and the file URL after watermarking using the contact form below and I will see if I can do some custom development work for you.
August 12, 2011 at 4:24 pm #35011buytheimageMemberHi amin007 I unfortunately lost your last email and am not sure as to what the image link should be to pick up the backup file for the shopping cart. Could you please let me know as I have now installed everything and now need to set up and try the download.
Thanks
Dave
