I’m in need of help as soon as possible!
I’m running a give away to collect people on my list and all of a sudden, the download links are not working!
‘Requested File Could Not Be Found’ keeps coming up when people try to download!
Everything was working 100% a little while back.
If you could email me directly, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Frank
November 13, 2009 at 6:57 pm #16011FrankMemberA quick update. I’m not sure what is causing the issue, but I moved my files from a dedicated directory to the downloads directory in the plugin and it seems to be working….But the old files, still getting that error. Not sure why. If I try to do a download right in the browser, it pulls the file just fine.
I checked with the hosting company and they have no error logs nor any restrictions on file access or downloads.
I’m stumped.

November 14, 2009 at 1:48 am #16013FrankMemberI wish I could say something changed, but I even went to the hosting agent and no changes, no errors. I had about 30 people pull the file and then nothing. Everyone keep getting the error. And that was for all products. Even when I went to the admin section and generated a download link, it would fail.
The products were not sitting in the download plugin directory though. I moved it over to the download directory, and created a new product and viola, started to work again. Other’s still don’t work.
I’d share the details on the site, but I’d rather do it off the forum, if possible.

November 14, 2009 at 6:39 pm #16014FrankMemberOk, after fooling with this for some time, I’ve come up with a few points….
I’m wondering about expiry times on links. I’ve had two conditions crop up – the links are unavailable and links expiring very quickly. You see, I setup the links to expire on the default 24 hours. All of a sudden, links started to expire in 5 minutes. I had to alter the link expiry to 72 hours. One issue resolved but not explained.
Next, I moved the download product from the the uploads directory to the downloads directory right in the plugin and I’ve had over 100 downloads since with no issues.
Another strange thing, the links that were failing before for downloads are now working again. Hmmmm. The only thing that could have changed for the others is the expiry time of the downloads, nothing else.
Now, the question here is are these two things related or not or ???
I’m going to take some time today to look into the php code, but you know your code much better than I do.
And I really do appreciate your efforts. I am a vendor of many electronic products and feel your frustration by purchasers that seem to be lost in the desert at the best of times.
Thanks,
Frank

The relative URL is relative to the download validation script (download.php).
The expiry and the download URL are not related.
November 15, 2009 at 5:45 pm #16016FrankMemberI did have the files pointed exactly to a path, but moving it to the download folder seems to have made a difference. Well over 140 sales since, and no issues.
I am still wondering about the time issue on life of links.
Hmmm.

November 16, 2009 at 9:44 pm #16018FrankMemberI am still having troubles with one issue. I keep getting people get a ‘link expired’ message when they try to download. Seems that I setup the expiry time to 72 hours and 72 hours have passed since I setup the product, now, they are getting this message. I tried myself by generating a link in the admin window, and sure enough, it came up right after the link was generated.

November 17, 2009 at 1:57 am #16019FrankMemberTo better clarify the problem, I’ve set the ‘Duration of Download Link’ to 72 hours within the Settings panel. Now, after 72 hours or three calendar days, any product that was posted at a certain date will come up with expired links.
I’ve had to continue to bump up the Duration of download link time to over 144 hours to keep offers working.
Is this the way it’s supposed to work?
